Why is My Diesel Generator Making a Strange Noise?

Posted on Feb 10, 2026 • By DEC Engineering Team

Strange noises from your diesel generator are often the first warning signs of impending mechanical failure. At Diesel Engineering & Co, we believe proactive listening can save industrial units millions in downtime.

1. High-Pitch Squealing

This is usually related to the alternator belts or water pump pulleys. In coastal cities like Karachi, salt-air corrosion can accelerate belt wear.

2. Metallic Knocking

Serious knocking sounds may indicate fuel injector timing issues or, in worst-case scenarios, piston slap. Immediate inspection is required.

3. Excessive Vibration

Often caused by loose engine bed bolts or exhaust mounting failures. Routine AMC checks can identify these before they cause structural damage.
